Do you have to pay to use MatchPub?

It’s free to start. New users get free matches, extra rewards pop up from time to time while you use MatchPub, and after those, matches use coins. You don’t need to pay anything, add a card or choose a plan to have your first conversations, and you can come in as a guest.

That’s the short version, and it’s the honest one. The rest of this page explains each part, including the things MatchPub doesn’t promise, so nothing comes as a surprise in the middle of a good conversation.

What do new users get?

Free matches, ready to use as soon as you arrive. They’re used for random matches, and nobody asks for payment details before you spend them. You don’t have to share anything, invite anyone or fill in a profile first; they’re simply there on a new account.

We don’t publish a fixed number here, because what a new account receives can change. What doesn’t change is the order of things: free matches first, coins later. If you want to make them count, the tip from the coins guide is a good one: start with whichever mode suits your mood, and follow the people you click with so you don’t have to find them again by chance.

Here’s how it tends to go for someone new. Maya opens MatchPub on her phone after dinner, skips the profile, and starts on Video. The first match is a short hello; the second turns into twenty minutes about a show they both watch. She follows him before tapping Next, tries Audio for the next one, and closes the tab with free matches still left. None of that cost her anything, and she knows exactly where she can find the one person she’d like to talk to again.

Do more free matches show up later?

Yes. While you use MatchPub, rewards appear now and then, and claiming one adds free matches to what you have. You don’t have to go looking for them; they show up on their own as you use the site, so claim them when they do and keep matching.

There’s nothing to enter, share or invite anyone to in return.

Treat rewards as a pleasant extra, not something to plan an evening around.

When do your matches start using coins?

Once your free matches are used, matching uses coins. You buy coins in the wallet, and your balance sits there where you can check it at any time. VIP is a separate, optional monthly membership, and you don’t need VIP to start matching.

Some other paid features in the app also use coins. The coins and VIP page explains what they pay for, where to see your balance, and how to spend them sensibly. Prices are shown before you pay, inside the wallet, so you always know what a pack costs before you buy it.

Do the free matches ever run out?

No. A free 1v1 chat on MatchPub is how you start, not a plan that runs indefinitely. New users get free matches, rewards add more along the way, and after that, matches use coins. We’d rather say that clearly here than leave you to find out halfway through a conversation you were enjoying.

The same goes for a free 1 on 1 video chat specifically: your first free matches work on Video too; after those, video matches use coins. The one-on-one video chat guide is worth a read before you spend your first ones.

What isn’t promised here

A few things you might see promised elsewhere, and won’t see here. There’s no fixed number of free matches published on this page. There’s no claim that any mode is free for good. And there’s no promise about how often rewards appear. Each of those depends on things that change, so we don’t promise them. If something here changes, this page changes with it, rather than leaving an old promise in place for someone to find later.

What is promised: you can start without paying, the cost is shown before you buy anything, and coins live in a wallet where you can see your balance. If something about a payment looks wrong, write to support from the contact page.

Why do matches use coins at all?

Because real-time video and audio cost money to run. Every match connects two people across networks, often across continents, with sound and pictures moving both ways at once. Coins keep that sustainable without stuffing the screen with ads, and the wallet shows what each pack costs before you buy.

We think being clear about it is better than hiding it. If you want to understand the whole flow first, how MatchPub works goes from the first match to someone you follow, and the MatchPub home page covers everything else the site does.

Free to start: quick answers

Is MatchPub free?

Is the free part permanent?

What happens when my free matches run out?

You can top up coins to keep matching, or wait for the next reward to pop up.

How do I get more free matches?

Keep using MatchPub. Rewards appear from time to time and you can claim them when they do.

Why does MatchPub use coins at all?

Running real-time video and audio costs money. Coins keep that sustainable without hiding the cost.
