ColombiaSay hello to someone new

What do you need to get started?

You need a browser and nothing else; Video adds a camera and microphone, and Audio a microphone only. There’s no form, no download and no payment step before the first match, so you can usually be in a conversation within a minute of opening the site.

What do I need to open MatchPub?

A phone or computer with a modern browser. Video also needs a camera and microphone; Audio needs a microphone; Text needs nothing extra.

Do I have to fill in a profile first?

No. You arrive as a guest and can start right away. A photo or display name is optional and can be added any time.

Which browsers work best?

Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android give the smoothest experience. Any recent desktop browser works on a computer.

Setting MatchPub up as an icon is covered on the MatchPub app page. If a camera or microphone prompt never appears, the quick fixes on the contact page usually sort it out in under a minute.

How does matching work?

Chance picks the person; you pick the mode and whether to stay. Each match pairs you with one person who is matching at the same moment, and Next ends it and finds someone new. The same evening can bring a two-minute hello and an hour-long conversation.

How is the other person chosen?

At random from people who are matching at the same moment. You choose the mode, Video, Audio or Text, and MatchPub finds someone.

Can I change modes between matches?

Yes. The switch at the bottom of the match screen applies to the next match, so change it whenever you like.

What if nobody seems to fit?

Keep going, or open the online list and pick someone to message instead. Some evenings it takes a few tries, and that’s normal for random matching.

Does anyone else see my match?

No. Each match is two people only; nobody else watches or joins.

The first minute of a camera match is broken down in the one-on-one video chat guide. Prefer to talk without a picture? Audio works the same way, and the guide to how you call strangers has openers for the first five seconds.

How do follows and profile messages work?

A follow keeps someone in your follow list so you can find them again, and a message from their profile starts a thread in your message list. Neither needs a phone number or a social account, and the other person doesn’t have to follow back.

What does a follow actually do?

It keeps them in your follow list so you can open their profile later; it needs you to be logged in. Your contact details aren’t shared, and they don’t have to follow back.

Can I message someone I never matched with?

Yes. Open their profile from the online list and send a message from there.

What happens if we write in different languages?

Text messages can be translated automatically, so a conversation in writing can work across languages.

The full path from match to message list is on the how MatchPub works page, including what the call button on a profile does.

What’s free, and what costs coins?

Starting costs nothing: a new account gets free matches, and claimed rewards add more. After that, matching uses coins bought in the wallet, where each price is listed before you pay. VIP is a separate monthly membership you only take if you want it.

How much does MatchPub cost to try?

Nothing. A new account starts with free matches, and claimed rewards add more.

What happens after the free matches?

Matches use coins, which you buy in the wallet. The wallet lists each price before you pay.

Is VIP the same as coins?

No. Coins are spent as you go; VIP is a separate membership you can add if you want it.

Read where free ends, or go straight to the coins and VIP guide.

What stays private?

Your phone number, contacts and real name are never part of matching. A match shows the other person only what your camera, microphone or keyboard sends, and your profile shows only what you choose to put on it. Everything else stays with you unless you decide to share it.

Does MatchPub show my phone number to anyone?

No. Matching doesn’t use your number, and nobody you meet sees it unless you tell them.

What can people see on my profile?

Whatever you choose to add, such as a photo or display name. Leave it blank if you prefer; it won’t stop you from matching.

How do I remove my account?

Write to support from the contact page and ask for deletion. The privacy policy explains what is removed.

Habits that keep conversations comfortable are on the safety page, and the privacy policy lists exactly what MatchPub collects and why.
